“That was unfortunate. That was essentially an interaction with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the signal was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the incorrect digit,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved rapidly.”
Historical Precedent for Proprietor Penalties
This is not the initial instance an NFL owner has been fined for misconduct. Previous examples include:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at spectators in early 2024.
