The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
