Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities stated they were contacted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state early analysis suggest the liquid was probably human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the incident rendered him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
